Tactical Atmosphere
R&D with global imapact
The scientific communities have long yearned for a dense atmospheric sensor network. Whether it be drop-sondes, iono-sondes, microwave temperature profilers, or tertiary occultation satellites, the need for precision real time 'tactical' atmospheric modelling has not been required. This is in large part to the monumental success of the 1970 US standard atmosphere model. Aviation has been capable of meeting the separation minimums using this model alone.
Bridging the geometric and geopotential domains.
Fortunately, the National Airspace system design relies on single sensor separation. This unyielding tenet allows for the 1970 US standard atmosphere model to be only mostly right, everywhere, all the time, at every altitude.
However, only mostly right, is slightly wrong everywhere, all the time...
This will not suffice when severely reducing Aviation separation minimums in order to transition between airspace from the metropolitan geometric domain (city) to the conventional fixed wing pressure domain (sky) and beyond into the orbital domain (space).
.
A comprehensive real time equivalence modelling of the US standard atmosphere is needed in order to advance aviation into the space age.
Prolific Effects' technology stack performs the US standard Atmosphere derivation in real time. The 1970 US standard atmosphere is the result of an idealized hydrostatic equilibrium model of the atmosphere using the hypsometric equation which produces the rate of change between pressure and geopotential height.
More than ever before, the differences between geomeric height (radar/GNSS) and pressure altitude are amplified and compounded when attempting to severely reduce aviation seperation minimums for parcel, eVTOL, and AirMetro.
